For the last few months, we've been adding amenities just for quilters to our Sunriver house: it had the potential for a a great quilting retreat spot: location, the spaces, the surrounding quilting inspirations...and then we added adjustable tables, extra comfy folding chairs, ironing boards and steam irons, and even a borrowing basket of books, notions and tools to help make sure that quilters stay happy!
So on a chilly weekend in early April, I invited some quilting friends to test-drive the whole QuiltSunriver experience from beginning to end! Spring and Fall are great times in Sunriver: the neighborhoods are quieter than the busy (and more expensive) high-season, but still easy driving over the passes to get there from the Portland metro or Salem areas.
Well, I think I must have inherited "The Hostess Gene" from my sweet mom, because I worried: Where will the tables go, and how will they fit? Will everyone have enough room? Sleep comfortably? Enjoy the whole QuiltSunriver experience as much as I do??
All my worrying turned out to be pointless...we had a wonderful time! Fabric and tips were shared, design consults conducted, and laughter, good food and chocolate abounded. We visited some fantastic local quilt shops (more on those another time!). Those of us who were hikers, hiked. We laughed non-stop at the lively little pub in the Village and then we laughed a lot more....and oh yes! We made quilts! You can see them in the photos below:
It was fun to see all the plans come together just so....or should I say: Just Sew? Whatever you think of my little pun (I know, it’s terrible, right?), we had a great time...and I do hope you’ll check out QuiltSunriver for your next quilt retreat! Everybody needs to have this much quilting, friendship and fun in their life once in awhile!
